Designing your office is hard work. No matter if the office is at home, or in a business setting, you still need to make sure that you make it your own so that you are enclosed in a space that will encourage your greatest and most efficient work. Think about it – the more efficient you are at work, the less time you actually have to be there working, so make sure it suits every need you could possibly have. Here are a few ways to thoughtfully design your business office:
Comfortable Seating
In my opinion, comfortable seating is essential. Who wants to walk around with a sore back all day as a result from being at work? Not me – I know that, for sure. That is why you need to invest in not only a comfortable chair (although, this is essential), but also a comfortable desk.
What do I mean by a comfortable desk? I mean, one that works for you, not against you. So, maybe this means that it is a standing desk. If that helps you be more productive than a desk that does not move, choose the standing desk. Also, make sure the desk is at a good height so that you are not staring down at your computer screen (or paper). This way, you should have great posture, which will help you feel comfortable now and in the long run, as well.
Last but not least, after you find your comfortable seating, find an alternative, as well. I highly recommend using an exercise ball as your alternative. This will help you build up core strength and balance and it will keep your back in great shape. It will also give you a bit of a distraction, while you are still working and being productive.
A Nameplate
If you are in a corporate office (especially a big one), a nameplate is a great idea so that your co-workers know who you are. This is perfect for large corporate offices, as I mentioned above – the ones with many, many employees. For example, Bennett Thrasher, a CPA firm in the Atlanta-area has over 300 employees. It is hard to know who everyone is, so nameplates are essential.
In order to feel professional and at your best, I highly recommend ordering a custom-made nameplate from local, Atlanta-based company, East Point Foundry. Environment shapes how we view ourselves and others, so adding a custom, high-quality name plate made by East Point Foundry will help shape that environment in a positive light. East Point foundry has been in business since the 1940’s and is committed to detail and craftsmanship, so you know that your nameplate will be perfect. “Bronze nameplates are a way to showcase a classic, elegant, and practical look in your space. Used for centuries, bronze is a recognized element that lends itself to be used in a variety of different ways and by a variety of people. Nameplates can help you fulfill your mission in honoring someone, remembering someone who has passed, or showcasing someone that is special to a certain organization. East Point Foundry has been creating these nameplates since 1948, focused on giving consumers the professionalism and class they are seeking to display. At East Point Foundry, each nameplate is handcrafted based on the customer’s needs, making it our goal to meet the expectations you had in mind when searching for the perfect nameplate,” according to the company.
Motivational Images
Motivational images, or text, is a great thing to have around your office. Maybe pictures of your family motivate you, or maybe it is an inspirational quote. Either way, make sure to fill your office with positivity. An easy way to do this is by searching Pinterest for motivational images, text, and whatever else you are looking for (it’s okay if it is a lion or something else random – as long as it motivates you!). Then, all you have to do is print out the pictures or text using a high-quality picture printer (if you want a portable one, the HP Sprocket Studio is really neat!), and then frame those images that you print out. Place them around your office and when you get into a lull with your work, take a peek and hopefully they will motivate you to keep pumping out your best work possible.
Control The Noise Level
I know that this may not be practical with all business offices and sometimes you have no control over it, but if you can, find a way to control the noise level so that you are more productive. Maybe this means bringing in ear plugs or headphones, or maybe it means just shutting a door. Whatever you have to do, just find a way to make it happen!
Have A Snack Drawer
Last but not least, I love having a snack drawer because it saves me so much time in the long run. Instead of having to walk all the way to the kitchen or a fridge, all I have to do is reach down and grab something. If you need a space for perishable goods, maybe consider a mini fridge if you have room for it. Don’t forget to stock your mini fridge, or snack drawer with plenty of hydrating drinks, as well, such as water, coconut water, or gatorade. Also, add a few treats in there to wish yourself a job well done when you accomplish something that you are proud and excited about.
