Who does not want to have pearly white teeth? Everyone wants to have that but not everyone can quite afford those exorbitant bills your dentist has quoted. The good thing is that you do not necessarily have to go to a dentist to whiten your teeth. There are several natural remedies that you can follow in order to achieve those pearly white teeth.
Here are five tips for whitening your teeth if you are on a budget.
- Use baking soda.
Our toothpaste includes this one ingredient that we can find in our kitchens – a baking soda. It is a natural teeth whitener and has been proven to be effective. All you have to do is mix a quarter of a teaspoon of baking soda with water and brush it on your teeth using your toothbrush. You may also try to mix it up with your toothpaste and brush it normally like you do. It will gradually make your teeth whiter over time with constant use. You have to properly use it though and not overdo it as it can remove the enamel coating of your teeth.
- Try oil pulling.
What makes our teeth stained are the bacteria and in order to whiten our teeth, we have to regularly remove stains and plaque. One effective way of removing bacteria from our mouth is through mouth rinsing with coconut oil or more commonly known as oil pulling. Use a tablespoon of coconut oil and rinse through your mouth for about 10-15 minutes. This will help remove bacteria and lubricate your gums and teeth which can help prevent the plaque and stains from sticking. This process helps in fighting gingivitis, plaque and removes microorganisms that cause bad breath.
- Use activated charcoal to whiten teeth.
It has become a growing trend nowadays to use charcoal in whitening teeth. It looks a little weird, but can charcoal whiten teeth? It turns out that it can. Activated charcoal is an absorbent substance that can remove toxins and when it is applied to the teeth, this mineral can take food particles and stains from the surface of your teeth. It is highly effective in getting rid of those yellowish surface stains in just one swoop. However, please do note that activated charcoal does not change the color of deeply stained teeth as it works wonders on surface stains only.
- Avoid drinking beverages that are known to cause a stain on your teeth.
There are a lot of foods and drinks that can stain your teeth and these include soda, blackberries, white wine, green tea, sugary treats, black tea, and many more. Drink plenty of water and always brush your teeth properly after drinking or eating these types of food.
- Use warm salt water as a mouthwash.
Saltwater is a natural antibiotic and helps in looking after your gums and whiten your teeth. Just boil a cup of water and wait for it to warm up. And then mix a teaspoon of salt. Use this solution as a mouthwash.
