Friday Love List: 5th Anniversary Edition

Hey y’all!

So, today’s a big one! It’s Mr. R’s and my 5 YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! 5 whole years we’ve been glued to each other’s side, for better or for worse, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Not a single thing.

Since my Friday Love List happened to fall on our anniversary, I thought it would be fun to share a list of my favorite things about my hubby over the past 5 years, so enjoy this special Anniversary Edition of The Friday Love List!

Getting married

Well, duh! But some of you may not know this story so here goes: I moved to Atlanta fresh out of college in May 2010 and found out I worked with this really cute video editor 😉 I asked him out to dinner one night and the rest is history! We started dating in August 2010, got engaged in January 2011 (yes, that’s less than 8 months after I graduated college and moved here), bought a house in October 2011, and were married on March 10, 2012. It was a crazy whirlwind romance, but it was perfect.

Owning our own homes

It became very apparent very early on that we were going to buy a home. We got an apartment in Buckhead when we got engaged, but for the rent we were paying, we thought it would be better to just buy. Some of my favorite memories were of home-dreaming with Mr. R as a new couple. We looked at some artsy lofts, some homes near Grant Park in downtown, but ultimately landed on our first home in Doraville. It was perfect, and I cried when the buyer wouldn’t budge on the price. That’s how he knew I had to have it. It was such a good home to us for 5 years, and it’s the home we brought our first two babies home in. That place will always be so special to me.

Then we found our second love, our new home! Building a home together is a whole different level, let me just tell you! From getting to pick all of the colors and accessories, to the stresses of major delays, to living with my in-laws (Thanks, Mimi and Pa!!) this experience was really trying but oh-so-worth it. I tell Cele how in love I am with our home every day, and can’t thank him enough for all the sacrifices he has made to help us get it to this point.

Becoming parents

Well, DUH! This man has given me the two most perfect children I could ever ask for, and watching him grow into the role of fatherhood has made me love him so much more than I ever thought possible. He is gentle, but firm, caring, funny, loves to play with them, and just an amazing dad. I love the way he loves our babies.

Watching his cooking talents grow

Over the past 5 years, my hubs has become something of a chef! I’m not lying, the man can COOK!! And no, I just don’t love this for selfish reasons like not having to cook, or getting to eat all of his delicious food, though those are major pluses. I love it because it gives him a release, let’s him be creative (although he is in a very creative line of work so it’s not like his creativity is stifled). He has a passion for being in the kitchen and I love watching him get excited about what he is cooking! I hope he passes that love of cooking to the little ones!

Vacations and Getaways

I love that every time we have a day off or a special holiday comes up, his mind automatically goes to “Where could we go?” Though we are not world travelers, we do love to explore and try new weekend getaways, have fun just the four (or two) of us, and spend quality time together. I can’t even count the amount of times he has surprised me with a getaway to Chateau Elan, Stone Mountain, St. Augustine, Chattanooga, and other quick trips. These are always some of my favorite memories because we get to leave reality for a bit and just be us. Then of course, we have our Disney and beach trips, which are amazing because we get to hang out with family. Traveling with him is definitely something I love about us, though.

Our Dance Parties

Ok, I know this sounds ridiculous and it is- ridiculously FUN!! I love this tradition that my boogy-ing hubby has started with our family. Seriously, seeing my kiddos light up when he busts a move can turn the worst day around and he just has such a way of brightening up our lives! I love ours dance parties!! And the kids have totally taken after him.

His passion for life

This man is PASSIONATE, and maybe to a fault sometime (ahem, politics) but I love and so admire the way he can get behind and issue or cause and unwaveringly support it, not matter what others think or say. He is passionate about movies, politics, public policies, his family, his work, and just doing the right thing, and just being the best person you can be. He pushes me to be my best self, and I so love that about it.

His love of ice cream

I mostly love this one because it benefits me personally 😉 Going to get ice cream is one of our family’s favorite ideas, so we always have a good time if ice cream is involved, whether it’s having it together at home or going our to our favorite (RaceTrac). We always have such a good time!

His thoughtfulness

This is probably one of my favorite qualities about my husband. This man is THE most thoughtful person I have ever met. Whether it’s me he is thinking about or anyone else, family or friend, he puts his all into planning or thinking about this person. From birthday presents to surprise parties, my hubs is such a genuinely sweet, caring person. It’s hard to keep up with his thoughtfulness level, as I’m sure anyone in our families would agree! For example, he woke me up this morning with a video he’s been adding to every year on our anniversary!

I just love this man. Five years has flown by, yet as I think back, I am blown away but how much we have accomplished, lived, loved, and grown over those years. He has helped me become a better person, and together we have grown this beautiful life that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Here’s to the next 55 years 😉

I LOVE YOU, Cele!!

XO,

Amanda
