Hey yall!
If you follow our social media accounts, you’ll know that Spring has officially sprung in Georgia, and we are LOVING this gorgeous weather. We love to play outside, hit the ballpark to watch our nephews play baseball, cookout for dinner, and just be outside as much as possible. Evidence Exhibit A below:
But having two little ones and always feeling like you’re not doing enough to protect your babies from the outside world can make any mama (or daddy) weary during the Spring, when allergens in the air and rising temps can trigger skin irritations. In an effort to ease those worries and help us all enjoy the outdoors just a little bit more, Dreft, the number 1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians, has partnered with Dr. Dyan Hes, mom and medical director of Gramercy Pediatrics, to share tips helping moms keep baby comfortable during the spring season. And by the way, she’s been named one of New York’s Top Doctors of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 by Castle and Connolly, so listen up!
Spring Time Tips and Tricks from the Expert, Dr. Hes
1. Load up on liquids: Staying hydrated during the spring months is important as baby gets more active outdoor time and sun exposure. Start with the inside and ensure children get enough to drink throughout the day. Infants should nurse or take a bottle often; older kids should tote a sippy cup or reusable water bottle. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and smoothies in your child’s diet too.
2. Choose the right fabrics and care for them properly: When it comes to fabrics, it’s extremely important to seek out gentle and hypoallergenic items to care for the items that touch baby’s sensitive skin. It’s also essential that fabrics be cared for properly. Wash baby’s items with a specially-formulated product such as Dreft, the #1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians to be gentle and hypoallergenic on baby’s skin. Trusted for over 80 years, Dreft comes with a babyhood scent beloved by moms, and it remains safe and hypoallergenic for baby.
3. Protect Problem Skin: Heat is a common trigger for eczema and as the weather warms up, there are a few things you can do to help prevent flare ups of such skin irritations. The sun is strongest between the hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. so try to shield baby from direct sun exposure during those times. There are also apps available that can inform you of the hottest part of the day – which can be helpful for parents as they plan any outings with their little ones!
Using the Good Stuff to Keep Baby’s Skin Safe
Because Dreft is gentle and hypoallergenic on baby’s sensitive skin, tough on stains and has a baby fresh scent, it is often recommended by pediatricians and dermatologists for tots. As babies grow and develop, laundry needs change for both little ones and their families, which is why Dreft introduced a line of laundry products that are specially designed for different stages of babyhood- Stage 1 for Newborn and Stage 2 for Active Babies. I love this because, in the early days of Tino’s life, I didn’t want to mix his clothes with Anissa’s, but now they are both pretty active so we are using Stage 2 for both of them.
Finally, Dreft knows that the scent of a baby is one of the most intoxicating smells that will be engrained in your memory forever, so they have done an amazing job of keeping their beloved fresh baby scent that has been mesmerizing parents for over 80 years! Because who doesn’t love clean kids and clean clothes? 😉
