*Book Review* The Curvy Girls Club

Hi everyone!

I love reading, but it’s only ever so often that I get to curl up with a good book (er, Nook). So when I do, it’s gotta be a good book to keep me interested. My latest read was just that- a fun, good book about friendship and learning to accept yourself (can I get an AMEN?) The book is called The Curvy Girls Club, and author Michele Gorman is a British author who really knows how to write a heartwarming book. Here’s a blurb:

When the pounds start falling off Katie, founder and president of London’s most popular social club for the calorie-challenged, it seems like a dream come true. But as the overweight stigma recedes and her life starts to change, she faces losing more than the inches around her waist. Everything that’s important to her – her closest friends, boyfriend, and acceptance into the club itself – are at stake in a world where thin is the new fat. A funny, heart-warming story about overcoming the prejudices we hold, no matter where we tip the scales.

Simply put: I really enjoyed the book. It’s a light, easy read, and it got me through many middle-of-the-night feedings with little miss Anissa. The author, Michele, really did a great job of getting the reader attached to the characters, and made them very relatable. Plus, you are totally rooting for a few relationships and friendships throughout, which keeps you flipping through!

The idea behind The Curvy Girls Club is a cool one- basically, this group of friends decides to ditch their Jenny Craig-esque weightloss meetings for some different, fun outings. Once others catch wind of this new club, they decide to grow it, and it becomes a phenomenon of sorts. Michele, the author, enjoyed spending time in the fictional Curvy Girls Club so much while writing the book that she has created the real thing! The real Curvy Girls Club is a friendly, supportive, encouraging community where everyone is welcome, a fun place for people who want to love themselves. She describes it as “the most flattering fitting room in the world – perfect lighting and mirrors that make you feel fantastic. Because you are fantastic. And that’s the whole point.” Sounds pretty uplifting to me!

Interested in joining the club? Club members are treated to a daily dose of loveliness – empowering reminders that you’re pretty great just the way you are. Members can chat with one another, get involved in the book club and, once there are enough members, check out the real life social events. We’ve all got one thing in common: We want to live in a world where everyone is welcome no matter where they tip the scales. You can join the Club here for all the fun. As a bonus, all new members will get Michele’s romantic comedy short story, WEIGHTLESS, for free. You can also follow the Club on the Facebook group  or Twitter @CurvyGirlsClub3. And don’t forget to show some love to the author herself by following her on Twitter and Facebook!

As an FYI, the Club is not just for curvy girls, but for everyone who wants to feel great!

Ready to buy this fun book for yourself? You can find it on Amazon USAmazon CA and Barnes and Noble. Enjoy!

XO,

Amanda
