Hey everyone!
I promise, no spoilers ahead! Ok, now that that’s out of the way, I want to tell you all how much I LOVED Divergent (the book and the movie). For anyone that follows the blog, you’ll probably remember that I read all three of the books (Divergent, Allegiant and Insurgent- and OMG, can you believe how Insurgent ended?!) Ok, back to the topic at hand.
I read Divergent- and I loved it. So much so, that I have written about it THREE times: once in my Summer Must Read List, once on my Friday Love List and once just when talking about Life Lately.
Well, since the moment I saw the first trailer for the movie, I have been anticipating and waiting for March 21- the release day. See the eye-catching trailer for yourself, now!
Looks good, eh? In case you don’t know much about the book or movie, Divergent is a “thrilling, action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues.” The main character, Tris, has to make a decision that will change the rest of her life, and when she finds out more than she should know, she has to be a total bada$$ and take charge! But oh, it is so much more!
I truly loved the movie (almost) as much as the book! I thought the actors (Shailene Woodley plays Tris and Theo James plays Tobias, or Four) did an amazing job portraying the main characters I’d come to love. I thought the movie stayed true to the book, which is always a plus for me. I’m all for creative differences, but when I feel invested in a story, I like to see it represented on the big screen pretty much how I read it.
Yes, while some of the writing was cheesy (a few particular lines in mind that even made me chuckle), it was overall a great representation of a great book (in my opinion, at least!) It had great special effects and some of the scenes were truly beautiful.
So far, it has a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Woh woh woh. But even Mr. R, who knows a thing or two about movies and is a pretty harsh judge, said it deserved at least a 70%. I’m a little closer to siding with the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score of 80% 🙂
So tell me: Have you seen the movie yet? If so, what did you think? If not, will you plan on seeing it?
XO,
Amanda
