First of all, let me be the first to say: Freakin’ finally!!!
We love our house. It’s a sweet house, it’s our first house, it’s our home. But the dang house didn’t have a master suite in it! And you know what? That was fine. It was fine for the first two years we lived here, when it was just us, and when I didn’t pee every two hours during the night. Mr. R had always had dreams of building a master suite into the house, but it always seemed like a far away dream…
Cut to October, when we were newly pregnant and faced with the decision to move or stay and add on to the house. Now don’t get me wrong- the house would have been fine for us + baby. But when the opportunity to stay in the home we love and just upgrade presented itself, we couldn’t pass it up.
So we set out to do what any expecting parents with a few screws loose would do- completely renovate our house in three simple steps!
A Crazy Person’s Guide to Remodeling While Pregnant:
Step 1: Turn the den into a half office/half playroom
Step 2: Turn two small bedrooms into a master suite (master bedroom + bathroom)
Step 3: Enclose the carport to add on a new family room
All the steps are finally done, but today I want to show you guys Step 2: Our new master suite!
Before the remodel, the two rooms were an office (first two pictures) and an empty room we thought would one day be a nursery (last picture). They were the two smallest rooms in our home.
The process of remodeling these two rooms was a beast, I’m not going to lie. It took about a month and a half, and while that may not seem like a lot, that’s a month and a half of construction workers in and out of the house, endless Home Depot trips and the draining of your bank account…. it was rough, and the constant dust and dirt in the house was killer. You can see the progress in pieces below….
After the remodeling process we have a beautiful new master bedroom and master bathroom, complete with new floors, light fixtures and more. It’s MORE than I could have hoped for. It’s perfect, and it’s OURS! I loved our house before, but now I am IN love with it. I just never want to leave our room! See for yourselves…
Hope you enjoyed the “tour” of our new master suite! It was a crazy, long ride, but I could not be happier with the way everything turned out!
