The Nursery Diaries: Part 1

Hey everyone!

So, as a fun way to chronicle the nursery of Baby R aka Anissa Marie, I thought I’d shed some light on our plans and progress as it happens.

As you may know, we’re doing BIG TIME construction to the house. For that reason, the “nursery”, which was formerly the guest room, has been piled high with crap from every other room for months now. Of course, that’s been bugging the bejesus out of me, because I’ve got the nesting bug BAD! Well, construction’s almost done and we’ve been able to slowly but surely get stuff rocking for the nursery. I told you guys a while back about our overall theme and plans for the room, as well as some inspiration in this post, and hopefully you’ll see some of it come to life over the next few weeks in The Nursery Diaries!

First up, we got to set up our rocker/glider! We got the Dutailier Espresso Lullaby Glider Highback and Ottoman from Babies R Us, and let me tell you, that thing is co-mfy!! And, it was super easy to put together- I actually did it (mostly) all by myself, besides the heavy lifting of the chair out of the box- don’t worry, mom!

I love that this rocker also glides, as does the ottoman. I know Baby Girl and I are going to spend many a sweet night together in this chair, as she will with her daddy! I can’t wait for sweet snuggles!

You can also see that the room has been painted! We decided on a neutral color that will go great for a boy or a girl, so we settled on this caramel color from Behr. I really love the color- in fact, we love it so much that we are using it in our new addition of the house, as well! While we were having the room painted, we also decided to add on crown molding to the top of the walls; I really think it adds a lot to the room!

The last big development for the nursery is that we have chosen the fabrics for her bedding, which have all been sent off to the lovely ladies who will be sewing everything! For a little bit of backstory- I was having such a hard time choosing a bedding set that I liked, that wasn’t too baby-ish or too themed. I mean, I am all for baby stuff, but I just didn’t think that a pastel baby blanket with ABC’s was really going to set the mood of the nursery we were going for. So, I decided to purchase all of the fabric I wanted on Fabric.com and have everything custom made- that way, I’d know we were getting exactly what we wanted!

Here are the swatches we are going to use. The Ivory color will be used for the quilt and bumper pads, which my amazing grandma is making us! She has always made my bedding growing up, but I didn’t think she still did it any more. But when she called and offered to make it for the baby, it was an offer we couldn’t resist! The Ivory and Coral will also be used for the bed skirt, which my sister-in-law’s sister-in-law, Nancy, (whew, that’s confusing!) is so generously making for us, along with the sheets. The Parchment will be the piping on the bumper pads and quilt.

Speaking of bumper pads, we hear ya with the warnings! We’re adhering to the safety guidelines that call for 1 in batting and 12 in bows, and will likely remove them once they become an issue and Anissa is big enough to be rolling around in her crib.

Since we’re going solid on all of the bedding, we wanted to do a pop of pattern for the sheets, which will be made out of the following fabrics:

Riley Blake Ombre Dot Hot Pink

Riley Blake Camp a Lot Chevron Cream

Riley Blake My Sunshine Raindrops Pink

So there ya have it folks- a sneak peek of the progress being made in Miss Anissa Marie’s room so far! Next up, we’ll be building the furniture, so I can’t wait to show that to you all!

XO,

Amanda

So excited! I can’t wait to see our little snugglebug snoozing in her fabulous room! You’ll have to pry her from her grandmas’ and grandpas’ arms, though! (Yes, plural.)
