Adventures in Painting

Painting. Painting, painting, painting. I can’t even believe I am about to write about our adventures in painting, just because of how 100%, completely, undoubtably TIRED we were after said adventures. But alas, it was an experience for us, and one that I want to share with you all!

So, how did we get into the mess of painting, you might ask? Well, a few reasons, actually:

1. Our dining room set fit well in our dining room (as in, they don’t look all too big for the space or anything), but every time people pull out the two end chairs, they hit the walls. Deep brown chairs + light walls do not mix well, so we’ve had these streaks on the dining room that really get under my skin.

2. We had some lights installed in the living room and dining room, but the electrician does not do holes, so we’ve had these cutouts for a good six months in our ceiling that I can’t stand and needed to be taken care of.

3. We had wood paneling in the front room. WOOD PANELING! It really bothered me when we bought the house, but as we decorated and time went on, I seemed to forget about it… but it always lingered, so I had to cover it.

4. My parents were coming to town, and we wanted to get those things taken care of.

So the first thought was to hire someone to come in and paint the house for us. But after getting some quotes, I guess Mr. R got a wild/confident streak, and we decided we could do it ourselves. Well, we did it! But that does NOT mean it was easy!

All in all, it took us about 2 weeks (mornings + nights + weekends) to paint three rooms, sheetrock and cover the holes from the lights and install two new chandeliers. Not too bad once all was said and done, but in the moment- sheesh!

So check out some before pictures of our house here, and then you can see the finished product below! We decided on a khaki color for the walls + a few deep red accent walls. I’m now 100%, completely and absolutely in love with the improvements we made and proud to be able to say we did it ourselves!
