Let’s talk about skin and skincare. Who has perfect skin? Raise your hand… anyone? If so, you may exit now…. but I am guessing no one is claiming to have perfect skin. And even if you do, why not treat it to a nice facial every once in a while?
I was able to review an awesome fruit facial peel from Homepeel, Australia’s skin peel specialists. This peel was oh-so-sweet, because to make the peel, you just add a piece of your chosen fruit to the lotion, watch it bubble up and emulsify and allow the fresh fruit fragrance hit your nostrils. Then BAM – put it on your face on feel magic happen.
I chose strawberries as my fruit, and even though the instructions say to use “a small piece,” I decided to be stubborn and se two whole strawberries, which I definitely did not need. Once I sliced the strawberries and put them in a bowl with the lotion, I used the grinder from our molcajete to really mash it up. Then, I used the pretty pink fan brush my kit came with to plop the strawberry paste on my face. I will admit, it felt weird having pieces of strawberry on my face (and in my hair- don’t judge my messiness!) but the tingle felt good and I could tell it was working.
You have to keep the paste on for 5 minutes (or less if the tingling is too much for you) and then use a piece of gauze to scrub it off and get the dead skin. I was expecting this to hurt- but it didn’t! I wiped it off and my skin definitely felt smoother after one use. Since it’s “fortnightly” (weekly) I am going to try it again for the next few Monday’s and see how it works after 1, 2 and 3 tries.
So now for the science behind the peel: The Fortnightly Fruit Peel (which retails for $49.95, but I’d imagine you can get 10-ish uses out of it) draws on the acidic properties of the fruit as well as the nutrients they imbed. Combined with the lotion, they provide an instant and effective peel, which is based on natural properties. The peel works to gently remove the upper dry, dead skin layers, showing off your fresh glowing skin.
Homepeel’s fruit ideas and recommendations include strawberries, kiwi, blueberries or mangos, just to name a few. You could also combine a few for a truly tropical feel!
One of the things I liked about Homepeel is that they are not newbies- Homepeel’s champion product the Green Herb Skin Peel kit has been successfully on the market for over seven years, so I know they are a trusted brand.
